A Little Time Out Of My Day (Poetry Sidebar: Vol One)
My love isn’t like an ocean
Sure, it’s vast
Teeming with life
Growth
And has a certain ebb and flow
Sure, you and I play Sun and Moon
Directing when the tides come and go
Not to mention the depth
Or how I can get lost in you
Finding something new to love about you
Before it’s even the afternoon
But my love isn’t like an ocean
More like the shore
When the tide is out
I need to understand the gravity
Of what we have before the waves hit
The push
The pull
The time away
The tide pools
What remains when
The rush recedes
Is it you and me
Or just the memory
You see, my love isn’t like an ocean
It’s a cause for commotion
Everything in the open
Cut free from the metaphors
Or the subtleties
Direct
Have I told you that you occupy my mind yet
The small things
The laughs
A withering glance
I melt under while pretending not to see
You know, my love is…
My everything
Even when my best interest
Is up against it
You are who I always choose
When I’m low
When I’m in a thoughtful mood
When I’m anxious
When I’m filled with joy at how your heart is the one I keep
I mean my love isn’t like an ocean
But that doesn’t mean it isn’t deep.
